The event sees some of the top names in amateur golf in Spain competing. In past editions, these have included Alvaro Quirós, Jorge Campillo, Azahara Muñoz and Belen Mozo. The recent winner of the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa, Pablo Martin was a member of the winning team from Andalucia in 2004. La Cala Resort is recognised by the Spanish Golf Federation as the biggest golf complex in Spain. Having three established courses allows La Cala to be one of the leading promoters of junior golf in Europe. La Cala will host the European Amateur Open for persons under-25 in February 2010.
