News: Surprises in the International Lady Junior Championship
The championship is being played at La Cala Resort (Málaga, Spain) until 9th May.

The strong wind has resulted in many surprises during the first day of the match-play.
In the morning, the Madrid player María Elena Villamil defeated the number one of the qualifying phase of the Internacional Lady Junior Championship. Celine Boutier from France lost against the Spanish player, who qualified in 32nd position and the final stage of the Championship after a play-off on hole 19.
The dream of Camilla Hedberg from Barcelona to repeat last year´s title, finished on hole 19 as she was defeated by Karina Kukkonen from Finland.
Finally a total of 10 Spanish players qualifed for the the round prior to the quarterfinals, together with four players from Finaland, one from Portugal and another one from France.
In the afternoon, last year´s Spanish amateur champion, Anna Arrese, lost 2/1 against the portuguese player Marta Vasconcelos.
The play-off between Ana Blanco and Sara Nuutinen, the excellent conditions of play by Ana Fernandez de Mesa and the tight match between Luna Sobrón y Noemí Jiménez were some of the most brilliant moments of the afternoon.
Tomorrow, Saturday, the quarter finals at 08:30 hours will still see the International flavour of the Championship with five Spanish players, the two Finnish players Karina Kukkonen and Noora Tamminen with previously mentioned Marta Vasconcelos from Portugal.
The semi-finals are played tomorrow afternoon and on Sunday at 09:00 hours the final begins.
