Last year´s overall winner, Liam Power didn´t manage to repeat the victory but scored 35 points and managed the 4th position.
The competition was sponsored by the Mijas Town Hall and the presentation of prizes was performed by the organiser of the event, Francisco Sepulveda, president of the neighbours association Santa Teresa de Jesus of La Cala de Mijas and the Mijas councillors, Mª del Carmen Jiménez, who expressed their satisfaction with the ongoing success of the annual competition that continues to attract high entry levels and attracts attention to La Cala Resort, Spain’s largest golf resort, situated in the heart of the Mijas Golf Valley. Mª del Carmen Jiménez also invited all the participants to take part in other sports activities that are to be organised in conjunction with Feria La Cala de Mijas, that is to be held between 27th July and 1st August. The overall winner, Helmut Brune, commented the great conditions of the course, hardly no wind but hot day which helped him to score a fantastic result.
In general the participants commented on the excellent lunch and generosity of the sponsor, Mijas Townhall, who provided an excellent range of prizes.
The big surprise was for Javier Sierra Sanchez from Madrid who has been visiting the area the last three years for holidays. Last year he participated in this competition for the first time. He enjoyed the resort and the friendliness of the many local participants and decided to repeat. As being the player with the best score made by a Spaniard, he qualified automatically for national final of the World Golfers Championship, to be played at La Cala Resort in August this year. He has now the opportunity to end up playing for Spain at the World Golfers Championship Finals in Thailand 2010.
