News: World Golfers Championship 2011

Last week was an intense one for amateur golfers at the resort.

Saturday 16th saw the first stage of the German World Golfers Championship when Campo America was selected by organiser Hans Licthenberg to host the first qualifier of the year open to German nationals.

Not only German residents residing on the Costa del Sol took part in the event, but also many players travelled from Germany and stayed at the resort attracted by a combination of great golf and pleasant weather.

Six of these German nationality players qualified for the German National Final that will take place next October at Golf Club Issum-Niederrheinin in Germany.

As the official Headquarters of the Spanish team of the World Golfers Championship, La Cala also welcomed some of the teams that played in the Final of the World Golfers Championship 2010, held in Thailand, to participate in a re-match tournament on 18th & 19th April.

Teams representing Spain, Switzerland, Germany participated together with Russia, the current World Amateur Golf Champions 2010, in a specially designed 2 rounds competition, with the first round played on Campo Europa whilst the second day was hosted on Campo Asia. Spain resulted into the winning team with 607 points, followed but European team with 629. Actual World Champion Russia finished third with 655.
