News: La Cala Resort receives endorsement from Dutch football side
La Cala Resort has received a ringing endorsement from the head coach of Dutch first division side N.E.C. Nijmegen, who have spent a week in a mid-season training camp in the Mijas resort. The club first used the complex’s facilities last year and Alex Pastoor says they decided to return as they had “a good experience with La Cala” last January. He added that the better winter temperatures made it more efficient to train in the south of Spain rather than in the Netherlands while the league is taking its winter break.

Mr Pastoor said the La Cala facilities offered, “a very professional environment and, in particular, the pitch is excellent and in brilliant condition.” He was equally fulsome in his praise for the rest of the facilities saying, “the hotel is beautiful with good rooms, great staff and excellent food. The players feel very comfortable here.” It hasn’t been a great season so far for N.E.C., as they lie in the bottom half of the Dutch league but Alex Pastoor said, “that’s going to change from now on. Our goals are to get to the end-of-season division play-offs.” During their stay N.E.C. played friendlies against Malaga B and FC Basel. N.E.C. play in the Dutch first division, the Eredivise. They are based in the city of Nijmegen and their home ground is the 12,500-seat Stadion de Goffert. They played in the UEFA Cup in 1983, 2003, and 2008.
