Peterborough United F.C. return to La Cala Resort

English Coca-Cola Championship side Peterborough United F.C. have returned to La Cala Resort, Mijas, Málaga for a week-long training camp. The club have used the resort as a training base for the last two years, when they gained promotion from League Two and then from League One. Their manager is Darren Ferguson, the ex-Manchester United striker and son of Sir Alex Ferguson. He said La Cala has been a lucky training base for the club. “La Cala has been perfect for us for the last two years and gave us a great start to both seasons. It is a hard ask to gain promotion to the Premier League after two successful campaigns but we will be giving it a good go. The chairman has not sold any of our good players so that is even better than making new signings. It is a hard league but we are all looking forward to it.

“La Cala is ideal for us. The surface of the pitch is fantastic at a time when many pitches in the U.K. are hard and can cause injuries. The hotel and the staff are great and all the training facilities are excellent. Everyone has been very helpful and all our needs are attended to immediately, so it’s top-class service. We get very well looked after here. It is important for the players to bond and this gives the new signings a chance to get to know the rest of the squad.”

Peterborough United’s links with the Costa del Sol have been forged by their chairman, Darragh MacAnthony of MRI Overseas Property, based in Marbella. “La Cala ticks all the boxes as far as I’m concerned. It has all the facilities we need,” he commented.

The football facilities at La Cala are extremely popular and have been used by a numerous top professional clubs from all over Europe. Another Coca-Cola Championship side, Barnsley F.C., will also use the resort as a pre-season training base in the coming weeks, as will top Mexican first division side, Atlante F.C.. In addition the England U-21 squad trained at the complex before the European Championships in Sweden this June where they finished runners-up.
