Mijas awards an excellent year of sport

European, national and Andalusian champions and even sportsmen who have competed internationally worldwide and at the Olympics, all met today in the Townhall of Mijas where sports scholarships were given out for the 2009-2010 season.
The act inaugurated by the Councillor of Sports, Francisco Marin, was presided by the mayor Antonio Sánchez, who emphasized the “excellent state of health” of Mijas sport.
54 sportsmen received scholarships over 17 different sports.
The Councillor of Sports also recognised the work, strength and success of our runners up of the World Golfers Championship, the “Vive Mijas” team, made up of Juan Antonio Ruiz, Adam Ford, Pedro Antonio Corral, Eduardo Casasola, Carlo Ruiz Castilla and captained by Ana Nyblom.
Other achievements included Duane da Rocha, European Champion in the 200 m backstroke and Regino Hernández, the first sportsman of the province to reach the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver in 2010 in the snowboarding category.
