Severiano Ballesteros Foundation Challenge

The Seve Ballesteros Foundation is preparing a big event on the 9th April in which we need the participation of the maximum amount of people possible. It is a tournament which will be held at most of the golf clubs over Spain at the same time. It will be a event to raise funds for the foundation, to help with research programs into brain tumours in adults and children.

Each club is responsible for their own tournament and at La Cala Resort we have decided to make the event joint with the World Golfers Championship.

In 2011, La Cala Resort will organise the qualifying rounds and the national final of the WGC. The competition is based on a concept which allows amateur players to experience the thrill and prestige of playing in a global championship event.

Severiano Ballesteros is the Honorary Chairman of the event’s Advisory Board. He says: “The concept of the World Golfers’ Championship is unique and important for all amateur golfers around the world. They have contributed and supported us professional golfers for decades. We owe them a lot!”

For the challenge of 9th April, the format will be medal play (hcp) with maximum double par. A format which is very popular in the Nordic countries, as it is a stroke play competition where you can still pick up the ball without penalty.

There will be trophies for the two best results in each of the 6 categories (0-5.4, 5.5-10.4, 10.5-15.4, 15.5-20.4, 20.5-25.4 and 25.5 – 36.4). Men and ladies will participate in the same categories and the best scratch result (men or lady) will also receive a prize.

The best score in each of the six categories by players with Spanish nationality will qualify for the national final of the WGC which will take place at La Cala Resort during the last weekend of August 2011.

The entry fee will be €50 per person (€20 will go to the foundation). Members of La Cala Golf Club will pay €20 per person (which will all go to the Foundation).
