XXV CUDECA Golf Cup Anniversary at La Cala Resort

On Saturday, June 2 at 9am, La Cala Resort has a very special date to celebrate with their silver anniversary of this traditional CUDECA tournament, and thus adds one more year to the trajectory of one of the most important charity events they organize. The aim is to raise funds for the Cudeca Foundation – Cancer Care Hospice.

Copa Cudeca has been held over the past 24 years and has become an essential tournament in the resort’s annual calendar. This important event aims to raise funds for the Cudeca Hospice supporting their admirable work and to continue improving the income area dedicated to patients who require free professional care at the end of life.

From the resort management, they are very proud of the results of the last 24 years of organizing this tournament. “Last year, more than 10,500 euros were raised, funds that were allocated to the installation of a new air conditioning system that will improve the quality of life of the patients in the In-Patient Unit,” said Noemí Román, Marketing Director of La Cala Resort. For the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the tournament, the chosen course will be Camp America, known for its extensive golf course, flat streets and spectacular views of the Sierra de Ojén and the Mediterranean.

The registration fee for the tournament is 60 euros and includes Green Fee, shared buggy, prize giving and auction. There will also be a succulent barbecue at the end of the day and an auction to raise funds. Non-golfers have the possibility to accompany the players to lunch for only 24€. Participation in the tournament is open to all amateur players, with a valid licence issued by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation and/or a handicap certificate from another international golf federation, with no handicap limitation.

The start is at 09.00 in the morning and the style of the game will be ‘individual stableford, 18 holes’. There will be prizes for the top three finishers in each category.

CUDECA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to offer specialized care and assistance to people with advanced cancer and other non-curable illnesses and support to their families. Each year, more than 1,400 people need the professional and free care they provide. Since 1992, CUDECA has managed to care for more than 14,000 patients in the province of Malaga thanks to the collaboration of the entire community of Malaga.

Taylor Wimpey and La Cala Resort. A Joint Venture that will transform the Mijas area

A relationship that began four years ago with the construction of over 150 homes and now announces the launch of a new project with more than 800 homes to be built over the next ten years.
The privileged golf destination at La Cala Resort in Mijas enters into a partnership with the highly experienced and financially stable British developer, Taylor Wimpey.

Four years of collaboration between the developer Taylor Wimpey España and La Cala Resort have resulted in the construction and delivery of 150 homes in one of the best residential and leisure areas along the Costa del Sol in Mijas Costa.
At an event celebrated today at the Club House in the aforementioned resort, with the Mayor of Mijas D. Juan Carlos Maldonado present, together with other members of the council and the Managing Directors of both companies, the news about the new joint venture between the two businesses that will transform the municipality of Mijas was announced to the press and professionals from the real estate sector.

Over the next 10 years the property developer that was founded in Great Britain will invest more than 166 million euros in the construction of 800 new homes, with a variety of apartments and semi-detached properties on offer, entailing a complete transformation of the area and the very characteristics of the population in Mijas Costa. Around 4,000 new neighbours originating from different European countries are expected to choose La Cala Resort for their new second home on the Costa del Sol because of the natural beauty of the peaceful surroundings, the safety of the resort, the proximity to Malaga airport and the quality and features provided by the new properties.
La Cala Resort, one of the most important golf complexes in Andalucia, has three 18-hole golf courses designed by Cabell Robinson, an academy located next to the golf course with 6 holes and par 3, there is also a football pitch and facilities in line with FIFA specifications. It is the only complex with an 8-kilometre running track. The hotel provides 107 rooms, three themed restaurants and a Spa covering 1,300 m2 amongst other services on offer.

Juan Carlos Maldonado, Mayor of Mijas praised the initiative undertaken by La Cala Resort and Taylor Wimpey España and said that it will, undoubtedly, improve the quality of life for the residents of Mijas.
David Kelly, Chief Executive of FBD Property & Leisure Resorts stated “with the alliance between the Irish hotel chain FBD Property & Leisure Resorts, owner of La Cala Resort, and the British developer Taylor Wimpey España, Mijas will become one of the most important golf and second home destinations on the Costa del Sol.”
Javier Ballester, General Manager of Taylor Wimpey España, explained the strategic importance that this partnership has for their future business plan in Spain. ”To have been able to secure land in a privileged location and work with a respected partner such as FBD Property & Leisure Resorts is vital to us. If we also take into account the legal and management support offered by the Mijas Council, we have a perfect alliance”.

Within the strategic development programme launched by Taylor Wimpey España and La Cala Resort, with the institutional support of Mijas Council, the sales launch for a new residential development called GrandView was just announced today, comprising 20 luxury penthouses and 40 apartments, overlooking the golf course and fully integrated into the local scenery with panoramic views of the golf course and the valley of Cala de Mijas, which together with the 55 semi-detached properties currently under construction at the Horizon Golf project completes the promotion that both groups are successfully marketing at international level at the moment.
The price of the new apartments at GrandView includes a private underground garage and a storage room, solar panels, thermal insulation and soundproofing, natural ventilation system and the owners will also be presented with the “La Cala Privilege Card” which affords the card holder a wide range of benefits when using the different leisure services at the resort.
Work started in January and the planned handover date for this first phase of the GrandView complex in La Cala de Mijas is November 2019.

The predicted development plan is to maintain an annual production rate of at least 100 homes, between apartments and different sized semi-detached properties, at La Cala Resort in order to provide a variety of homes appealing to future international buyers.

73 is the number of nationalities who chose the hotel and its three golf courses to enjoy a extra-special stay during 2017. These included clients from practically all corners of the European Union as well as Switzerland, Russia, Norway, Moldova and Iceland. There was no shortage of long-distance visitors either, from the United States, South Africa, Thailand, Singapore, Mexico, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Australia and the Middle East, without forgetting some very exotic travellers from the likes of Barbados, Georgie, Ghana, Iraq, Iran, the Philippines, Tanzania, Kenya, Cameroon and India.

More than 100,000 golfers visited La Cala Resort, 100,463 to be precise, which serves to confirm the resort’s facilities as being among the most competitive in Southern Europe.

423 ‘hole-in-ones’ recorded in the golf complex since 1994, with 14 during 2017.

5 years old was the age of the youngest player who came to the greens, while the oldest golfer at 86 years of age is now a club member.

Around 20 football teams chose the resort’s facilities to do their pre-season training or for a winter break. During 2017, a total of 455 footballers came and stayed at La Cala Resort.

25% water saving was the amount achieved by the Leisure and Golf complex after an ambitious energy efficiency project. One of the three pitches (the least used one) was closed during the summer period, grounds maintenance was optimised, and the best adapted plant species were cultivated. Humidity sensors were also improved, sprinkler systems rearranged, and water control software updated.

115,000 beers were served across the resort’s various catering areas, of which 78,470 were pints, almost 18,000 half-pints and more than 17,000 cans. All of these included both national and international brands, although those made by the Mahou-San Miguel group stand out. Authentic record figures!

35 smartphone and tablet chargers were left behind in rooms, which gives you an idea of the massive usage of these devices, even on holiday. The most remarkable thing is that no one came back to get any of them!

La Cala Spa predicts ‘man’ as a rising trend for treatments and relaxation in 2018

Today, women are still leading the market demand for relaxation treatments and body care. However, the market anticipates new trends according to which men will be the emerging and most profitable customer of 2018. La Cala Spa is aware of this trend, and understands that the male audience do enjoy the many advantages of spas. With that in mind, in just six months, it has increased its health and beauty customers by 25%, a rise that makes it one of the leading facilities in Spain. The Spa center is located on the Costa del Sol, within a golf resort. It is the sixth best in Spain, according to Leading Courses, and is among the 60 most valued golf resort in the world.



The approach taken by the new La Cala Spa director, Pablo Sotoca, has been to change all the treatment protocols so that “the treatments look gender neutral, rather than specific and depending on whether you are a man or a woman”. He stresses that “our customers must feel safe, leaving the details to the professionals”.

The spa team has taken giant steps to also attract the male public, a traditionally neglected group in the world of relaxation treatments.
