La Cala Resort raises over €31,000 for Cancer Support through charity Golf Events

La Cala Resort, one of Europe’s most celebrated golf and leisure destinations, has once again demonstrated its deep-rooted commitment to the community by raising over €31,000 for cancer charities through two major fundraising tournaments this summer.

In June, the resort hosted the 31st Annual Charity Golf Tournament supporting Fundación Cudeca, raising an impressive €14,293. Just weeks later, La Cala welcomed over 100 players for the inaugural Golf for Life tournament in aid of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), which brought in a further €17,000 for cancer research and patient support services.

Both events showcased not only La Cala Resort’s outstanding facilities but also the remarkable generosity and goodwill of its members, guests, and the wider Costa del Sol community.

Sean Corte-Real, General Manager of La Cala Resort, commented: “We are immensely proud to have raised more than €31,000 this summer for two incredible organisations that provide essential support to people affected by cancer. Whether through long-standing partnerships like our three-decade relationship with Cudeca or exciting new collaborations such as Golf for Life, we remain committed to using our platform to make a meaningful difference.”

The Cudeca tournament, held on 7th June, was more than a sporting event. It was a day filled with generosity and celebration, including a charity raffle, tombola, and auction. Club captains Ed and Ineke de Cloe played an instrumental role, also strongly supported by La Cala senior management. All funds raised will go directly towards Fundación Cudeca’s palliative care programmes for patients with advanced illness and critical support for their families.

Later in the month, the Golf for Life tournament unfolded on La Cala’s Asia Course, a challenging and visually striking layout known for its narrow fairways, strategic design and mountain views. Organised by the local branch of the AECC in partnership with Mijas and Fuengirola Town Halls, the event united amateur players and supporters in a day of purpose-driven sport.

Francisco Jerez, Tourism Councillor for Mijas, said: “This tournament is a fine example of how tourism, sport and solidarity can come together for a greater purpose. Mijas remains committed to promoting events that not only enhance our region’s profile but also support the vital work of organisations like the AECC. It is a source of great pride to see our town unite for a cause that affects so many.”

These two tournaments are the latest in many philanthropic initiatives hosted by La Cala, where sport is not just a leisure pursuit but a vehicle for meaningful impact. Set across 400 hectares of Andalusian countryside between the Sierra de Mijas mountains and the Mediterranean Sea, the resort has three championship courses, a new nine-hole short course, padel courts, professional-standard football pitches and a state-of-the-art spa and wellness centre.

With its unique blend of natural beauty, high-performance facilities and a warm, inclusive atmosphere, La Cala continues to attract elite athletes, passionate amateurs and community partners alike, all drawn to a place where sport is both a passion and a platform for good. La Cala Resort extends its heartfelt thanks to all players, sponsors, supporters and volunteers who made these events possible. Together, they helped turn rounds of golf into real-world change.
