Gran Premio de Mijas (10/11/2009)
The second Gran Premio de Mijas has been organised for the bank holiday weekend of December 6th, 7th and 8th at La Cala Resort. The competition has the support of Mijas Town Hall and a large number of commercial sponsors. It was first held last year and almost 90 people took part. Speaking at a press conference to announce this year’s event, the Mijas councillor with responsibility for sport, Francisco Marín, said last year was “a great success”. Describing La Cala Resort as “a magic location”, he paid tribute to all the businesses who provided prizes. Organised by Chaparracing, the 36-hole stableford competition will take place on Campo Europa and Campo America on Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th. In addition, Sunday 6th has been set aside as an optional practice day. Manuel Gómez of Chaparracing said last year’s event was “magnificent” and there were prizes for everyone thanks to the generosity of the sponsors. He said that he was attempting to organise an Andalucía-wide amateur event for next year with the final to be played at La Cala Resort.
